Love Letters From God arrived just this afternoon, and it is already my new favorite for sharing with the children in my church and family! Each two page spread is a beautifully illustrated story, told lovingly in language that today's children understand. Also, with each story, there is a "God's Wonderful Words to You" box that shares a Bible verse selected especially for young children. "You will be my special treasure", Exodus 19:5, accompanies the story of The Team of Twelve, in which Jesus calls the Disciples. But most precious of all, a lift-the-flap Love Letter from God has a special and very loving message. With The Team of Twelve story, the letter helps the child to know that Jesus wants her to be on His team. The Love Letter that accompanies The Very Smelly Belly (Jonah and the whale) invites children to pray to God, knowing that God hears each prayer. The creation story is told as a celebration, while the accompanying Love Letter expresses the immense joy in which God created YOU! Congratulations to author Glenys Nellist and illustrator Sopie Allsop---I hope there will be more books from you that share our Christian faith with children!
I want this in an adult version!!I love reading this to my 4 year old son. He's always so excited for me to open the little flap and read the letter from God. There are always questions in the letter that relate to the Bible story that is read before the letter. And as I read the questions my son shakes his head and says "Yes". It's adorable.I glean from it each time I read it too him too. They have another version that is more of a hard board book for smaller kids. I got it for my "nephew" and his mom loves reading that to him too.
The stories in this are really great.My problem with this is how it looks on a kindle. I literally needed a magnifying glass to read this because even when you click on the portions to be zoomed in, it barely zooms in. Also it doesn't really highlight sections right all the time so it skips things. I feel like the kindle version of this book is just really bad. It needs to let you zoom in on the whole page instead of just the words and to make it larger. I am only in my early thirties and should not have to pull out a magnifying glass. >.<
This book is just adorable in every way. There are eight familiar bible stories in rhyme, eight lift-the-flap letters from God to your child, and eight short and sweet bible verses that tie in to the bible story being told. It is a board book with a soft padded cover, so it is great for toddlers to handle, and the artwork accompanying the text is colorful and fun. Lots to point to and talk about. Read it to your babies and older children too, you are never too young (or old) to hear about God's love for you. And who doesn't love to lift the flap? Or to get a letter of their own? Each letter even starts with Dear _______, so you can write in your child's name. This book is just so unique. What a fun way to show little ones that God knows them, loves them, has promises for them, and is there to communicate with. I love it.
I gave this book to my 11-year-old nephew for Christmas. He's a sports superstar. He rarely s-l-o-w-s d-o-w-n to read. When he opened this very personalized gift, he could not take his eyes off of it. The rest of the family was astounded! Holiday gifts were opened all around - and my nephew only wanted to read this book. His mother and his grandfather were tearing up from the focus that they saw from this boy - who had never shown interest in a book before. Additionally, the book itself was so much more sturdy and beautiful than the representation that I imagined from viewing online. I was very, very impressed with this purchase - and the love and attention that it received from my nephew!
This is an excellent way to teach your child about God.From in the beginning of creation all the way to the happy ending there is a bible story on each page and a lift the flap, love letter from God. There's beautiful illustrations with lots of color and a scripture verse with God's wonderful words. I especially love the end of the book, there's a very special invitation and a lift the flap, letter where your child can write their very own love letter to God. (Love that.)I ordered this book for my grandson. I loved it so much I am going to order additional copies...I am totally inspired by the author's creativity and heart warming imagination that speaks directly to the heart of a child.
Over the last month or so, I read a story and letter from this book to my 3 year old every night. He has loved it and we both enjoy the way the stories are told. The personal letters of God's love are well written. We finished two nights ago and my son asked for a love letter.As a pastor, I appreciate the way the stories are told, so long as you remember that this is a children's book telling bible stories and not a biblical translation. If you go into it expecting the stories as they are exactly in the bible, then you will find differences. However, the stories are memorable and well put together(my son was telling me about fluffy today).Where this book really shines is in the illustrations. They are colorful and eye catching. More than that, they are diverse. Its not all white people but there is a variety of ethnicities in the stories.I am thinking of introducing this book to our sunday school nursery people and giving coloring sheets to match the story for the week.
This is my absolute favorite children’s author. I have ordered (& read) all of her books and have pre-ordered the ones being published in 2019! The books are perfect for the grandkids – & also wonderful for the adults who read them to the children! They are extremely well written and the illustrations are adorable! I’m buying copies for all the kids on my Christmas list this year!
