The "Trains Of The Holocaust," is a very interesting, concise and moving book on the train systems in Europe during World War II. It is a very informative book on different subjects and well worth the purchase price for those who want to learn more.

As a side note; I think I have seen every Holocaust documentary there is to see on the Discovery Channels out there. Also, ever since my wife and I got married 13 years ago, she has been having nightmares that she is in concentration camps; don't know why.Perhaps she has been there in her previous life? Who knows!I have been always very fascinated how Hitler accelerated in technology at that time.Technology is one of my main interests in life. Our family is leading the most advanced technological program advancements in the world today.Life is short and very precious!I think it is very difficult to forget these times. Very difficult! It's like a young child that experiences a traumatic event in his/her life, than the mind barricades the events to self-protect; as you know, the events always surface. No one will forget, they hate us too much!

I am of Jewish ancestry and I have family that survived the Nazi horrors and some that perished in the war. For this reason I was very interested in reading this book hoping to increase my knowledge and comprehension of those terrible events. It may be that my keen interest led to even more disappointment but I find this book is so poorly written as to be unreadable.I realize this is in complete disagreement with one other review here but one should note that reviewer is mentioned in the "foreword" of the book as a friend of the author (location 124). I put foreword in quotes because the book lacks so much organization that it is impossible to discern its actual structure. The person is mentioned in what is listed as a "forward note."I only read about 20% of the book. I was unable to continue because of its many grammatical, punctuation, and sentence structure errors. At times I had to read a paragraph three and four times and I was still left wondering what point the author was trying to make. There are also many problems with paragraphs being repeated whole on various pages. It appears some of these are just careless cut and paste errors. I found several tables containing information on train schedules, number of deaths, etc. that were in Spanish (see location 713). I am writing these comments about the English version but I happen to be a fluent Spanish speaker. I could understand these tables but this type of glaring error detracts from what could have been a book of some value. Here is a randomly chosen paragraph (location 174) to demonstrate some of the problems that occur repeatedly:"At no time a concentration, labor or an extermination railroad belonging to a germen (sic) or associates lager's infrastructure was to be bombarded from the air, mainly at the stubbornly British insistence and opposition."From another location here is a typical muddled sentence (found at location 789) and a suggested re write:"One cannot understand this tragedy and macabre situation: the train no.77 living Drancy was on July 31 with 300 children. Paris was liberated by Americans a few days later.""It is difficult to understand this tragedy and macabre situation: Train No. 77 left Drancy on July 31 carrying 300 children. Paris was liberated by Americans a few days later."Other problems exist with the flow of information that make the book confusing. At locations 201-215 the argument is pushed that if International voices had been raised against the Holocaust then "the perpetrators will stop and think before killing." This is followed by a paragraph discussing the idea of international tribunals on war crimes. The link between international outcry as an effective means of deterring the Holocaust and the war tribunals is not explained and one is left to wonder what the author intended. The paragraph itself reads:"The establishment of an international tribunal to judge political leaders and military personnell (sic) accused of war crimes was an idea first tried to be introduced in the world arena after WWII at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 by the Commission of Responsibilities." Obviously, the Commission of Responsibilities happened after World War One, not World War Two. It is this type of careless proof reading error that makes reading this work so distracting.I hesitate to keep providing examples of this type of distraction. As I mentioned, I was looking forward to being better educated by buying this work and I am disappointed in the outcome. My wife, a Spanish language reader bought the Spanish version and found it equally confusing and also stopped reading it.The central theme of the book seems to be that an efficient railroad system greatly aided the Nazi efforts in carrying out the "Final Solution." This seems a worthwhile topic to explore but the work discussed here is in desperate need of editing and restructuring in order to become a valuable addition to Holocaust literature.

This is a collections of articles poorly put together with phrases which should have been translated from the original language into English plus it has quite a few typing or grammatical errors or plain mistakes e.g. Wannsee being East of Berlin whereas it is to the West between Potsdam and Berlin. Also the last half of the book is in the writers native language, Spanish, which is not mentioned in the preview. All in all I am glad I only spent $2.99 on the Kindle version.

The book is very comprehensive and far reaching in terms of present and future warnings. I have never before read estimates of the numbers of people who would have been aware of Nazi operations, that is very frightening. You answered the question as to why more Jewish people didn't try to escape the trains. Who would have given them sanctuary in the Europe of that time? How could they have gotten off the continent of Europe to freedom? This is apart from the fact that these people were cold and hungry and tired and travelling with their elderly and their young children. The photographs are harrowing, particularly the one where dead bodies are being removed from a box car and the people who are still alive are seated or slumped at the front of the car trying to draw some air while guards, stripped to the waist in the summer sun haul away the dead.Patricia O' Callaghan

This is not a review, but I recently contacted the author regarding the possible use of DRB Class 52 52 5448-7 for transportation of individuals during the Holocaust. At the Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, there is an informative display plaque, but when I visited the exhibit there I did not have a chance to read it. While I was there I did not get the impression the trains on display were even used during the Nazi era, and only started questioning their uses once I returned to the US. The author requested I post the correspondence here.Hello,I was recently in Leipzig and saw some trains at the Hauptbahnhof there. I didn't realize the engine there (DRB Class 52) was built beginning in 1940 from what I've read now that I'm home in the US. I don't remember the exhibit information there mentioning anything about this engine being used to transport people to Poland. I know there was an special holocaust train exhibit in Potsdam back in 2008. Is there a list of equipment used for that purpose? This is really just for my peace of mind... I feel uncomfortable now having stood next to an engine that might have been used for that purpose. The engine number is 52 5448-7.Thanks und veilen dank,R M CokerHouston, TX

This author presents and detailed and vivid history of the scary extermination methods used by the barbarians of history. This book is a must read and presents the Who What When Where of the Holocaust in unprecedented detail and accuracy.
